Connecticut ARES has a growing group of local "Telpac" stations that allow users of packet or a new packet-based program called "Airmail" to send and receive conventional internet email to and from any regular email account.  The use of "Airmail" confers some additional functionality, such as providing for attachments like MSWord, Excel, or smaller graphics files; but standard packet may be used with a Telpac very usefully.  A Telpac is merely a bridge to the email service, and itself stores and holds no data.  The data is held at the Central Message Server, of which there are three scattered around the world for redundancy.  Your email can be sent or accessed via any Telpac on VHF or any "PMBO" station on HF, anywhere in the world.  Yes, you need this!  -- W1WJB
